Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 vs Gen 1 vs Oakley Meta HSTN: Which Meta AI Glasses Should You Buy in Egypt?
Short answer: for most people, Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 is the one to buy: 3K video, up to 8 hours of battery and the classic Ray-Ban look. Pick Gen 1 if you want the lowest price and 1080p video is enough. Pick Oakley Meta HSTN if you're active outdoors and want a sportier frame with IPX4 water resistance.
What Meta AI glasses do
They look like normal sunglasses or eyeglasses, but have a 12 MP camera, open-ear speakers and microphones built into the frame. You can take photos and videos hands-free, listen to music and calls without earbuds, and ask Meta AI questions by voice. Everything syncs to the Meta AI app on your phone.
Gen 2 vs Gen 1
| Ray-Ban Meta Gen 2 | Ray-Ban Meta Gen 1 | |
| Camera | 12 MP | 12 MP |
| Video | Up to 3K | Up to 1080p |
| Battery | Up to 8 hours | Shorter |
| Styles | Wayfarer, Skyler, Headliner | Wayfarer, Skyler |
If you film a lot, or want the glasses to last a full day out, Gen 2 is worth the difference. If you mostly want music, calls and the occasional photo, Gen 1 is the more affordable way in.
Which frame suits you?
- Wayfarer: the classic, bold square frame. Suits most faces.
- Skyler: a softer cat-eye shape, popular with smaller faces.
- Headliner: a rounded-square, more vintage look.
- Oakley Meta HSTN: a sporty Oakley frame with Prizm lens options, 3K video, up to 8 hours of battery and IPX4.
Choosing lenses
Clear lenses work indoors and can usually be fitted with prescription lenses by an optician. G15 and polarized lenses are for sun. Transitions lenses darken outside and clear up indoors, so one pair works all day, which is the most practical choice in Egypt's sun.
